What causes dandruff?
Dandruff is one of the most common scalp problems.
We all shed skin cells. But sometimes a microscopic yeast called pityrosporum ovale, which is naturally present on everyone’s scalp, will multiply rapidly and this causes the skin to shed a large number of skin cells. This makes our scalp feel itchy and dry and you can see lots of white flakes in your hair and on dark clothing.
Dandruff can be cleared up by using an effective shampoo, but it can return if it is left untreated.
How can I tell if I have dandruff or not?
The usual signs of dandruff are a dry, itchy scalp and white flakes, which you can see in your hair and on dark clothing. If you have other symptoms we recommend you consult your doctor.
Why does dandruff keep coming back?
Sometimes just our everyday lifestyle like stress, hormones or blow drying hair can keep dandruff re-appearing.
That’s why sometimes when you stop protecting your hair from dandruff it can return. If you want to protect your hair and scalp from dandruff we recommend using either our Original Medicated Shampoo or Frequent Anti-dandruff Shampoo on a regular basis.
Is Vosene safe for young children?
Yes, our
2 in 1 Gentle Action Shampoo & Conditioner, with its gentle cleansing ingredients and pro-Vitamin B5, is particularly suitable for children.
Our other shampoos are specially formulated to be suitable for all the family, although we would not recommend they are used on children under the age of 12 months.
What are the top tips on keeping my hair and scalp healthy?
We recommend you do the following in order to make your hair and scalp remain healthy, clean and dandruff-free :
- Brush your hair regularly – this encourages healthy, natural, shedding of skin cells.
- Exfoliate shaven heads – rubbing or exfoliating shaved heads will also encourage the same process – leading to a healthier looking scalp.
- Wash your hair regularly – greasy hair encourages the appearance of scurff/dandruff so regular hair washing is doubly important if you suffer from this type of hair.
- Massage while washing - to maximise the activity of the anti-dandruff ingredients in your shampoo ensure you massage the shampoo on to the scalp during washing and ideally leave it for a couple of minutes before thoroughly rinsing.
- Healthy eating - a healthy balanced diet can reduce the potential of the development of dandruff.
